An Experience Report on Trial Use of Manfrotto MB MA-BP-TL-CA

I am a person with a passion for photography and travelling. I cherish every opportunity to travel. Many years of experience travelling tell me we have to adhere to one principle: We must treat every journey as the “last” in our life. Only this way can we understand the meaning of true beauty of the journey. We can also find the best angle to shoot to create the excellent work with the depth of thought.

For me, the preparations before travelling are absolutely essential. Essentially, a solid camera bag is the key to determine whether my travel will be successful or not. It must be strong enough to protect the photographic equipment against rain; moreover, it must be comfortable to carry.

The lower functional area in the camera bag can accommodate two Canon bodies (5D2, 5D3 with a handle), three lenses (70-200/f2.8, 17-40/f4, 100/f2.8), flash unit and so on.

When shooting outside, anything can happen. In unforeseen circumstances, I would choose to carry as much equipment as possible  within the range of my physical stamina. Without extra worries, it is ensured that all the shooting can go on smoothly. Therefore, regarding the camera bag, it must have enough space to accommodate everything in addition to its sturdiness and comfort.

Manfrotto MB MA-BP-TL is just the right camera bag which can meet all of these demands.

In appearance, this camera bag has the high-end Italian style in design, which is woven with the fabrics with varying degrees of reflectance in combination with carbon fiber accessories.

In structure, this camera bag is divided into two parts with different functions: the lower part for photographic equipment and the upper part for some portable tools or other objects. The bag surface and partitions are made of thicker materials, effectively protecting the equipment.

The fabric for this bag can prevent against daily water splashes and moderate rain. Moreover, a matching rain cover is provided for protection, which can prevent the camera bag against the threat of heavy rain showers.

In daily use the clip in the lower part shows the designer’s ingenuity and attention to detail. It is not just an ordinary lock catch with the flip cover. It can provide different ways of reaching the cameras according to diversified demands while guarding against the danger of losing the equipment by mistake when opening the zipper. In addition, it has another important function: anti-theft. The clip can easily prevent the zipper against being opened completely, avoiding the risk of theft.

For me, I am used to bringing two camera bodies and three lenses (70-200/f2.8, 17-40/f4, 100/f2.8) and a flash light for travelling. Multiple partitions in the camera bag can allow me to enjoy the DIY fun of freely combining the device compartments while effectively mitigating the collision of the equipment to ensure their safety.

The upper part in the camera bag is another functional area, where you can just put some filters, filters stands, batteries, camera cleaning utensils, etc. In the back of the bag, a computer compartment is provided for a 15-inch notebook computer. In addition, a zippered net pocket in this functional area is provided, where some thin objects such as paper, pens, business cards, can be placed. In order to avoid unnecessary trouble, the closure zipper for the upper part in the camera bag is designed as the “zipper with double sliders”. If necessary, a padlock can be used to prevent against unexpected opening.

On the front of the camera bag, a device is designed for external hanging of the tripod, which not only provides the convenience for going out, but also frees my hands.

Two functional pockets are attached on the sides of the camera bag, where some ordinary small objects can be placed. This design strikes us as considerate.

In design, the straps for this camera bag can be used in three different ways through the combination (on both shoulders, across one shoulder and in X-shape; according to the instructions, the camera can be quickly taken out of the bag in the case of carrying across one shoulder and in X-shape). But for me, it seems that I prefer the traditional “backpack” (on both shoulders) after trying several times.

The removable nylon belt is a comfortable design. It can effectively protect the waist through the reduction of burden on the waist in a long and arduous journey, but it can be removed in a short trip.

After continuous use of this camera bag, I personally feel that there is one point worthy of consideration, that is, this camera bag seems to fail in providing a functional pocket for water bottle. When going out for travelling, I usually carry a water bottle with me, which not only can supplement moisture for my body at any time, but also can protect the environment.

In addition, as I used this camera bag in the cold winter, I couldn’t know more about its permeability. The fabric next to the skin at the back of camera bag seems to be the thicker material, so I do not know whether this camera bag is suitable for use in the summer.

On the whole, this camera bag can basically meet my demands of going out for shooting, avoiding the extra worries for equipment protection.
